Congregations of the San Jose Presbytery are partnering together with Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Division and other community organizations to support refugees who are starting a new life in the Bay Area.

Refugees are our new neighbors have come to us fleeing the chaos of war and persecution. They cannot return to their homelands. Many are women and children. All have lost family, jobs, homes and support systems.

Catholic Charities provides a temporary home for some of these newly arrived refugees at one of two church-sponsored transitional houses in Santa Clara County. Residents usually stay here for three to six months and then move on to more permanent housing. During this time, they have intensive English lessons and learn job skills so they can become self-sufficient as quickly as possible.

There is a continuous need for dedicated volunteers to welcome and assist newly arrived refugees and their families in as well as to provide home-based support in other locations around the Bay Area.

Outreach to Your Community
•    Roughly 245 free case refugees resettle to the San Jose, CA, area every year
•    Support ends after 90 or 120 days
•    America can be a scary lonely place,
connecting to a church community can make a huge difference in adjusting to life here

Our Job is to Help Your Church:
•    Understand the issues and needs of refugee resettlement
•    Equip your congregational volunteers
•    Match your church with an opportunity to serve

Please Prayerfully Consider:
•    Hosting a Backpack drive for newcomers who arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs
•    Make refugee ministry a priority in your home missions budget so that you have the flexibility to sponsor, financially assist or work with neighboring congregations to help a family
•      Co-sponsor a refugee family. A team from your congregation can assist a family during their first year in the U.S. and expand the church’s knowledge of the worlds uprooted peoples. We will help provide the training and resources you need to make this a positive experience.
•        Financially supporting this mission to new refugees.
