'The Woods' is a well equipped camp located in a redwood forest in western Sonoma County six miles from the Pacific Ocean. Summer camps, adult programs, youth weekends and retreats are offered. ‘The Woods’ has residential cabins, kitchen and dining room, conference and retreat buildings, nature center, and many sports and recreational activities. The latter includes a pool, volleyball and basketball courts, playground, crafts "shack", climbing wall and ropes course. An important component of the camp curriculum is environmental education, i.e. learning through experience. The learning focuses on appreciating, understanding and caring for the earth. Three to five day programs in the redwood forest, stream and marine ecology, restoration ecology and astronomy are among the courses offered. Approximately 1500 children, youth and adults are served each summer and over 5000 people are served each year. Many congregations from Northern California come to ‘The Woods’ for fun and renewal.
