In the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), congregations are organized into shared governance regions called Presbyteries. Presbyteries are organized into a larger, multi-state region, known as a Synod, primarily for purposes of sharing administrative costs although there are some governance also involved. The Synod of the Pacific, the sponsoring organization of PMX, includes the Presbytery of the Cascades (Western Oregon, plus Vancouver, Washington); Presbytery of Eastern Oregon; Boise Presbytery and Kendall Presbytery, (Southern Idaho); Redwoods Presbytery and Sacramento Presbytery (Northern California); San Francisco Presbytery and San Jose Presbytery (Bay Area, California); Stockton Presbytery and San Joaquin Presbytery (Central Valley); and Nevada Presbytery.
