Menucha is celebrating its 60th anniversary as a retreat and conference center this year. Our focal point lodge, Wright Hall, is an 83 year old country estate in need of a new roof and rebuilt chimneys. It also currently houses our community dining room, kitchen, and housekeeping services, all vital aspects of our ministry of hospitality. Our project is designed to keep Menucha's sacred space a haven now and in the future.
Even though Menucha was built to endure the challenging Columbia River Gorge weather, the chimneys have had no repair in 83 years. The original roof lasted 50 years, and the current roof has been on the structure for 33 years. The goal for this project is to: rebuild Wright Hall's three chimneys, replace the deteriorating roof, gutters, and downspouts, remove growing dry-rot areas, install insulation where appropriate, and repair damaged brick at the front entry, back patio and steps.
For 60 years, Menucha has touched hearts, changed lives, and been a focal point for nurturing, healing, growth, and enrichment. We specialize in offering guests the gift of contentment - the comfort of needs well met and the freedom to engage in purposeful work. We define purposeful work as work for which people have a passionate intention, but daily demands may keep us from. Menucha is a chance to return to what matters.
As an ecumenical outreach mission, we provide space for (and leadership as needed) in the areas of: community-building, reflection and renewal, continuing education, pilgrimage, advancement of personal and organizational possibilities, cultural and artistic creation, discernment, recreation and enjoyment. Laughter...shouts of encouragement...soaring moments of epiphany...through God's grace, this happens all in a day's work.
Rhythms of focused endeavor and creative exchange, refreshment of perception, spiritual nutrition; these are some of the benchmarks by which a stay at Menucha may be measured.
Menucha has bed spaces and food service for 160 guests. We also have 34 additional bed spaces in the Barn, where guests may prepare their own food. Family-style meals are served three times a day in Wright Hall. Fresh-baked bread and homemade jam from local berries are part of the Menucha kitchen tradition. Menucha staff is pleased to offer staff leadership as needed to facilitate the experience guests seek, including program (we have both an educator and pastor on staff-together they have over 30 years experience leading retreats and educational programs). To arrange for a retreat, conference or continuing education event, call the Menucha office between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM weekdays, 503-695-2243. We look forward to serving you!
