After ten years, the newest church in the Boise, ID area is taking hold and making a difference in its community. Located in Meridian, ID, the fastest growing city in the state, the church, which originally was surrounded by fields and open spaces, is now in a neighborhood filled with new homes and schools.
As the community has grown, so has the church. Currently there are 110-120 in worship each week. Initially the church found it necessary to meet in storefronts and office buildings, but since Easter 2008, it has been meeting in its own facility. Recently, there were as many in attendance on a regular Sunday as had been there for the previous year’s Christmas Eve service.
The youth of the church are about to embark on World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine to help raise funds and awareness in an effort to diminish world hunger. Following that, many will be giving up part of their Spring Break to serve in the valley throughout United Way’s Alternative Spring Break Project.
Children’s ministry is growing significantly, and a new team is being put in place to shepherd this exciting development. A third “Marriage Course” is underway with twelve couples, only four of whom are from the church. And February 2009 marks the kick-off of men’s ministry, called Man2Man, beginning with a monthly breakfast and Bible study.
All this growth and activity has put a strain on the original furnishings purchased for the church’s use about ten years ago. The chairs are in very bad condition and are becoming more decrepit by the week. Every few weeks, chairs are “retired” from active service due to their state of disrepair.
Therefore, Take-a-Seat campaign with the goal of raising $10,000 for new chairs has been established. Each chair, including shipping, costs about $50. To date, the people who call Reflections home have donated just over $6,000. Since the congregation is not yet large enough to purchase all the seats needed, a gift to assist this vibrant, growing congregation meet its goal will ensure that all who come there will find a comfortable place to sit down and guests will feel warmly welcomed.
