The mission of Ring Praise Music Ministry is to tell the saving story of Jesus Christ through music, scripture and hymn history. The partnership of Phyllis Tincher on handbells and Sean Rogers on keyboard began in 2002 when Phyllis was asked to ring a solo at a church in Boise where Sean was the accompanist. Phyllis rings 3 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and Sean plays the piano or keyboard.
Beginning in the spring of 2004, they have taken their ministry on the road to small Presbyterian churches in Eastern Oregon, the greater Boise area, and Eastern Idaho. Sponsored by Nampa First United Presbyterian Church and other churches, groups and individuals, they have logged over 16,000 miles and have been to 42 of the 51 Presbyterian churches in these regions. They have also been to the Eastern Oregon Correctional Facility, churches of other denominations. They enjoy going to small churches and outlying communities who otherwise do not have programs come to them. Phyllis and Sean want to continue providing concerts around the region and beyond as well as expand their prison ministry to the Idaho State Correctional facility.
One of two settings is used in a particular church: applause-free hour and a half concerts and/or leading worship services. The music repertoire includes traditional hymns, praise songs and original compositions. Phyllis and Sean present the message of the music through handbell solos with piano accompaniment and piano and/or organ solos. In the smaller churches, there is an audience participation time singing hymns and ringing handchimes. In the larger churches, the audience sings a hymn with piano or organ accompaniment and Phyllis ringing bells. In addition to the concerts, Sean and Phyllis often spend time with the pastors and/or members encouraging the music programs at the churches.
Ring Praise only asks small churches to allow them to come and give a concert. No money is requested from a small church. What is asked of the churches is to publicize the concert so that people from the community can come to this event. As a result many people from outside the church membership come and bring friends. However, if a large church requests a concert, they are invited to help with expenses which underwrite the Ring Praise ministry to smaller churches.
All contributions will be used for travel expenses and compensation to Sean and Phyllis to offset their loss of employment income while out on concert tours. Expenses are held to a minimum by requesting home stays.
